Boca Raton Inlet - 7:00am, December 9th, 2004

First "on location" test of my new Canon 20D Digital SLR camera.

Note: All photos were shot at 8 megapixels, cropped for layout, and reduced
for viewing online. These do not represent the quality of the original photos.

Sunrise - Mild underexposure allowed color and detail near the sun to be preserved.

Sunrise Panorama - This image was stitched together from 10 individual horizon photos. The final product is 35"x6.5" at 300 dpi.

Sunrise - This photo was underexposed so the clouds could be seen against the sunlight.

Rocks - The glare entering the side of the lens added lots of color to this otherwise dull image.

Debris - A fast shutter speed froze the splash hitting a wodden palette.

Wave - A slow shutter speed allowed the light and colors of this wave to be seen. A side effect is that the motion smoothed the image a bit.

Posiedon Too - Heading out fishing. Fully auto mode on the camera. Good color and detail.

Posiedon Silhouette - Fast shutter for underexposure created this dramatic image.

Sandbags - These smooth, wet, cement sandbags lit up in an interesting way.

Bird Bath - I must have shot this little guy about 10 times before I captured one with his head up.

Birds -The lighting was neat here. The birds are lit by the rising sun, and the wet rocks reflect the pale blue sky.

Three Little Birds - A cropped close-up of the previous image.

Condos - Wide-angle, looking south with morning "magic hour" light.

Tree Next to Water - I was testing the camera's selective-focusing ability. Notice the leaves are clear while the water, 10 feet past, is not.

Bouys - I saw this as a test of saturation. The orange trap bouy stands out against the gray sand. A potential desktop?

Silhoutte - I changed this to sepia for a more dramatic effect. More underexposure would have helped bring out detail in the sky near the sun.
